Inadequate Ventilation

Apparently Bord Gais are going around houses and installing metres in the front of your garden. My mother just had hers done and they finished it but they said that there is inadequate ventilation in living room with the fire there and that they will send someone out to fit an air vent on the outside of the house. Anybody know how much they reckon it will cost to get this done?

As others have said it sounds a bit strange. I had a new line fitted by Bord Gais and they inspected my setup at the time. The fire was in the living room with a non-compliant vent. The guy issued me with a certificate of non-compliance and which gave me 30 days to rectify or they would disconnect.

Can't ever see them saying they will send someone out to install a vent.

My Dad had the same issue exactly. Non-compliant outside vent. (This was after someone came out to install a new digital meter - and then put it in a place where you can't possibly read it. All those LCDs have very narrow viewing cones. They moved the meter and then issued a cert of non-compliance! Thanks guys.)

My Dad replaced the vent himself with a compliant vent that looks exactly the same but with smaller holes (!) and they ticked it off. Easy to do though with a bit of cement - can't imagine it would be expensive.

He should have shut the fire down immediately until the problem was rectified

dtp79 is on the ball. totally correct.

The point I made earlier was get the vent sized and fitted yourself. Also have a rgi do tests on completion of installation of the vent.
