Cycling in the Algarve

My plantar is acting up and I am sick of swimming. I have checked out the local bike shops around the Quinta De Lago area and the bike hire price is crazy.

Anyone got anywhere cheaper near this area?

And any selected routes as well - I should be permitted to go for 3 hours max if I can rouse myself out of bed early enough?

http://www.algarve-bike-hire.co.uk/ They deliver and collect daily. €46 for a road bike for three days. For a great route drive to Silves and from there you can do a nice 75km climbing loop to Monchique and back - should take you about 3hrs but you are probably an hour drive from Silves where you are. Better still make a day of it and cycle there and back. For other routes check out the stages of the VoltaaAo Algarve. You should find something to take your fancy but I highly recomend Monchique. it's teh highest point in the Algarve AFAIK and has great road with stunning scenery.

Thanks for that, that shop works out much cheaper than the 2 I have come across as they were charging for helmets on top of that.

Must check out that Monchique place, if I put in the hard yards with the missus and the young lad I might swing an all day jolly

I second heading to monchique, lovely roads, great views. Nice and cool by comparison to the coast also.

Most important thing is to get to the far side of the A22 motorway - roads are much better and far quiter! You also get to see a little of real Portugal! I would suggest buying a road map from a garage (the little Repsol on the way to Almancil has good ones) - I bought a couple from newsagents etc and they were hopeless!
For the last couple of years I've brought my own bike - local hire was very expensive and the bikes weren't great!
I would defiantly stop off in Querenca (above Loule) for coffee - it's really pretty and not far away!
Worth getting out as early as possible before it gets too hot!
Here's a spin from my holiday last month that was nice - there are a few more on my Strava feed if you want to check them out!
