LG Optimus G2 video/photos leaked

So a video and photos of the Optimus G2 have been leaked. The reason I'm interested is because it'll most likely be a variant of this that Google release as their next Nexus phone in Q4 of 2013; a phone I will be very interested in.

From the story, one thing I'm not sure about is the button placement of the power and volume controls (on the back below the camera lens!?) which may or may not be practical.

Dimensions of the phone are reported to be 5.46" tall by 2.80", very similar when compared to the Galaxy S4 @ 5.38" x 2.75".

    From 4Leaks
This phone [LG Optimus G2] is yet to be unveiled in months. The G2 will run android 4.2.2 with LG's icon set. Curiously enough, the sleep button and volume buttons are located on the back of the device underneath the camera. The dimensions are 5.46" tall by 2.80" wide. Very comfortable in the hand, reminiscent of the Nexus 4 dims, except even thinner. What do you guys think?

    Engadget article
There's still one month to go before LG officially unveils its Optimus G successor, but thanks to an anonymous tipster, we have a pretty clear idea of what it'll look like. Similar to the G2 leaks we've seen in the past, this upcoming Android flagship falls more in line with the (LG-made) Nexus 4's rounded-edge design than the blockiness of the original Optimus G. As you can see in the image above, the purported G2's 5.2-inch, 1080p display is surrounded by very little bezel, making it appear near edge-to-edge. LG's also foregoing the three capacitive Android navigation buttons featured on the original G in favor of an onscreen (stock Android-like) arrangement. On back, we can clearly see LG is indeed going forward with that quirky volume rocker placement, which puts the controls just below the camera -- rumored to be a 13-megapixel module.

Further corroborating earlier reports and LG's own official confirmation, our tipster pegs the G2's processor as a Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.3GHz and paired with 2GB RAM. And although there are no visible signs of carrier branding on its glossy chassis, this particular G2 variant is supposedly headed to Sprint. Which, if true, lines up with the legacy set by the Sprint Optimus G -- a device that also launched free of the Now Network's logo. Apart from a few screens showing the launcher, camera UI and one of LG's various lockscreen options, there's not much more we know about its spec list (i.e. battery size). Though we fully expect more details to leak out in the run-up to August 7th. For now, check out the mini-gallery below and an additional, close up photo of the G2's volume rocker just after the break.

Update: We've received additional photos of the G2's settings menu confirming this model as a Sprint variant running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Update 2: 4Leakz has posted a video (after the break) showing the G2 in action. Reportedly, the phone is "very comfortable" and reminiscent of the Nexus 4, but thinner.

So in theory, under the hood - is this the N5?

In relation to the other LG with same spec as N4, was it P880?

Yeah it's very likely to be the next Nexus spec, processor and RAM wise at least. Nexus may lack LTE and expandable memory but we'll see. The Nexus 4 was priced so well for a Sim free phone, I'm hoping the Nexus 5 will follow suit.

First review up from Anandtech and this looks very good.

Particularly impressed with 3g Battery life; finally it looks like a phone will last more than a few hours without dying.

Another positive review from engadget. Looks like this could be my next. Have a feeling the next Nexus is going to be a bit underwhelming and just a slightly incremental improvement on the Nexus 4

Supposedly this is the basis for the next galaxy.

Any idea if this is launching on any network in Ireland?

Haven't seen anything. In fact, I think Three stated they had no plans to carry it at all.

    Sucks.

I bought it sim free through expansys got it this morning. As someone who would consider themself a Samsung officiando, I find this to be the best phone I've had in years and i have owned a galaxy note 2 and a galaxy s3 amongst others.

I love the knock on feature (tap twice to turn on/off) and the feel of this phone compared to the galaxy phones feels to me much more premium. The screen feels great and I've been finding the battery to be great so far

Got it today as well from handtec. Good timing too as the power button on my nexus 4 has been deteriorating over the last couple of months. It was taking more and harder presses to get the get the power button to work.

Anyway I'm absolutely blown away by the screen. So far everything seems better than the N4, can't think of anything negative really except that there is no option to have a multitasking button at the bottom. Got really used to it with the N4. Apparently it's possible if you root it but just going to use the long press home button method for now.

Was talking to a guy in carphone warehouse today and he said that they wouldn't be getting it citing LGs decision to pull out of the Irish market last year as the reason for it. Sounds like none of the phone companies will be getting it either.

Pity! Its a great phone, it feels more premium than the galaxy s3/note 2, it has lasted me the day on heavy usage and I'm getting quiet used to the LG software.
