I am researching into the role of an operations analyst in a fund accounting firm.

While I get an idea of what the role involves, I'd love to hear from those who know someone that has worked in that role or if they've worked in the role themselves.

Mods can you can bridge this thread to the work/jobs forum. Doing so will be helpful.

    Thanks

An operations role......is this as an actual Fund Accountant or in a trade reconciliations/settlements type role? Operations Analyst is used by lots of different companies but often means different things.

My guess that it's working in settlements and recs....daily job will be to ensure trades have settled on the markets as instructed by the clients, doing reconciliations of all positions and reporting that to the fund accounting unit.

This position is for a funds firm. So it's an operations funds/investment analyst.

It's not an actual fund accounting role but involves some of the responsibilities of a fund accountant.

Such as daily pricing & corporate actions, monitoring trades and the duties you mentioned.

I think you'd have to treat these types of roles as a gateway.

Some companies will really overload these types of roles as they are essentially support to the FA and Custody depts, especially if the company is a big bank, although they will normally have clearly defined processes and systems in place. It's really up to how the employee approaches it. You can work hard and try to make a name for yourself and hope to go up the ranks or change roles in time....however some will get bogged down and will just trudge through their day...it's all got to do with attitude.

Approach it with an open mind, learn everything that you can to carry it with you to your next role, hard to say much more without knowing what your experience is (assuming you are starting out) and what your aims are.
