    Hi all,
We had our wee Dexter calf dehorned three weeks ago but today I noticed that one of the wounds had opened up I disinfected it and put purple spray on it but the flies are really at it, is there anything else I can use?

Deffo put the tar over both horns and be sure to watch that they dont make maggots in this weather

AFAIK you shouldnt put the tar directly on the wound-put it in a circle on healthy skin.Maybe consider putting in shed for a few days during the day.

You can get it on as a spray and put it on daily for a few days. If you have access to sheep dip dilute and spray a bit on him head back etc this will help to kill flies that land on him.

Not sure for cattle, but i imagine the same would work - for sheep with wounds on their head like that, we'd use tar and put vaseline on the wound to keep the flies off.
