I'm renovating part of an old house at present and have removed the wallpaper and a polystyrene backing from the walls with a paintscraper.
I intend painting it with an emulsion, should I put some sort of a primer or bond on first of all ?
Some of the wall will have a skim of hardwall put on it to smoothen it out, should I do the same here ?
    Grateful for any advice.

You will need to be sure there is no dampness it the Walls at all. Or else your just wasting your time. If no Damp and walls are good I would let them breath for a few weeks after the old coverings taken off. Then a good wash down with Sugar soap . Then a coat of something like EB primer might be the best solution to insure a good bond when you paint. Make sure to use a Good quality paint like Dulux or any of the leading brands. Stay away from store brands. Trust me you only want to do the job once. Been there had the disasters with store brands.
