As the title says im thinking of setting up a weekly basketball match maybe in Waterford crystal. Its just been reopened under new ownership.

I guess im just wondering if people would be interested in playing basketball before I go about setting it up

Just a bit of friendly advice, but I would check with the new owners to see if the hall is still suitable as I was there last week for a game of 5-a-side and there are now large metal brackets drilled into the walls almost all the way around. A lot had 7ft punching bags hanging from them. Not exactly ideal for a game of ball. The new owners are martial arts-oriented so to me it looks like the hall will be a dojo of some sort rather than a hall to rent.

Like I say, a call ahead wouldn't go astray. The punching bags wouldn't be as much of an issue for basketball compared to soccer, so you might be alright. :)

Isnt it Pat Rockett that bought it and he is supposedly turning it into a martial arts gym.....so i heard so calling ahead is definitely a good idea.

Apologies for off topic in advance.

I know it's his business and he can run it how he wants but he just kicked out people with regular slots without even so much as an apology.

Used to play a weekly game there that is ruining for 5 years and he just have away the slot without even telling the organizer. just turned up to play and other people were in the hall.

Really bad form in my opinion.

I was afraid that would happen. We have a game going there for 12 years, a lot of the lads in the actually used to work there and we had no prior warning at all that the hall would be so different for our game.

Just for the OP, where else could host a basketball game? De La Salle, Kingfisher...

Ehh yeah Kingfisher could not sure about De La Salle and the Hall in the Abbey secondary school has a full size court. I used to play there years ago and the court is alot better than anywhere else in waterford but i think its expensive there

De la salle could work, it'd probably be the cheapest out of all the available places. I know a few lads who'd probably be interested too.

Lads is this for regular basketballers or newbies?

I've never played basketball but wouldn't mind givin it a go. Seems a good way to keep fit.

Also is it mixed or men v men?

Friends of mine play in Cill Barra gym a couple of times a week, I think that's where they play anyway. As far as I know it's out around Ballybeg. Could be another option for you?

Place does look well since refurb. The cafe in the foyer was a great idea too. Hope it goes well, nice to have alternatives to Kingfisher and Goldstone etc.
