i didnt get a lot of joy from the cops who i gave dvd to n would like to put up the clip on youtube to make life a bit harder for him. what if any legal implications are there?

Says it all about this Banana Republic. No revenue to be gained from it so the cops aren't interested.
Definitely put it on youtube, the burgler will hardly sue you.! And add a clip where you were ignored by the cops.

Be careful of the title of the video or what you say in it though. Calling him a burglar in the video if he isn't a convicted burglar may have defamatory implications.

I cant see anything wrong, legally speaking, with posting up a video on facebook or youtube in order to try make it go viral. Not exactly privacy concerns if he was on our property etc.

    Here's what I'm thinking, OP:

    1. If you send a copy of the cctv footage and maybe even a few still photos (if it is capable of being played on VLC Player, you can get stills), to the local Superintendent, this might go further and the guy may get prosecuted.

    2. If you put it up on youtube, it is entirely possible that an army of people will make comments about the clip, which may jeopardise a prosecution.
