Was thinking of using this airline for flights from Dublin to Ljubljana. My husbands 40th is coming up and he always wanted to go to Slovenia little did I know how difficult it is to get there. No direct flights and because I would like to book before his birthday this year Ryanair wont entertain flights unless they are 6 months in advance only (I am planning on going May 2014) that would have been great for Easyjet and Wizzair. With Aer Lingus you can book 2014 flights but they dont fly to Stansted or Luton where EJ/Wizzair fly from  Ideally I am looking for a week few nights in the capital and same in Lake Bled. Crystal do it as a package but only to Lake Bled with a day's excursion paid yourself to Ljubljana I dont think that would be enough and if we wanted to stay there we would be losing our money on the rooms we had paid for in Lake Bled. they are charging for 7 nights €1799 x2 for flights, accommodation, fees, transfers, food Air Adria are charging €939 flights only x2 then I could book cheap accomodation which was about €520 in the two places for two about €1459 in total with buses/transfers add on another €100 still works out cheaper. So do I go package which takes all the hassle away from me or go for cheaper by about €250 and book myself

Sorry but your post is difficult to understand, I'd also move it to the main travel section as it gets more traffic and this section is more for "youth" travel.

I can't understand how Air Adria are charging the guts of a grand per person for the flight?!

I just did a quick look on www.skyscanner.ie for May 15-22 next year and got prices with Lufthansa for just over €300, you can get cheaper with Turkish airlines but horrifically long journeys and layovers.

I'd wait until the winter and book then, Ryanair like to negotiate with airports so they never have flights available way in advance, they may well resurrect flights. I doubt flights will be booked solid to fly to Slovenia next May.

Also, you could fly to Trieste in Italy and get a bus from there to Ljubliana - apparently there are issues regarding hired cars crossing the border from Italy so be aware of that.

Sorry I put it in independent travel. Yeah it's crazy prices the one country hubby would pick but I want to go to looks beautiful. Package for me would be out I think now as I cant customise it to my liking ideally want a few days in the capital as well as the lakes. this is a quote I got from Air Adria today PRICE PER PERSON EUR 487.99  then have to add accommodation, buses, food tours on top of that I will be lucky to get it just over the €1000
I checked Wizz, Easyjet, Ryanair to see if they have nudged forward with 2014 flights they are doing 8 months in advance now so have them up untill end March 2014 hopefully they will have May/June 2014 up by Sept this year so I can book them for hubbys 40th in October.

but where were air adria flying from and what sort of time did you have to wait there? I'd rather €600 in my pocket for holiday spending money and suffer the extra few hours in an airport.

Still awaiting a response on that query not the quickest to get back to you when I checked myself there was a 5 hr wait in Frankfurt dont mind up to 2hr depends on the airport too I guess you can kill a bit of time eating, shopping in the bigger airports.

Fly to Venice or Trieste and either rent a car or rely on public transport.

The connections between Trieste and LJ are ludicrously bad for two first world countries, but what you can do is take a taxi from Trieste over the border to the nearest town in Slovenia. From there, the connections onwards to LJ are fine.

There's no issue crossing the border in a rented car, or at least I've never had a problem doing it.

I hadn't thought there would be either but this thread raised the issue that's why I mentioned it.

Wouldn't be driving so that's out been to Venice think I'm going to wait till Sept see if Ryanair have their May 2014 flights up then I can book either Stanstead or Luton, that's all I'm waiting on then I can sort out accommodation later in the year. Package working out too dear and I can't customise it too my liking

Remember though if you do book a bunny-hop with Ryanair via Stansted or Luton that you'll be paying 4 lots of luggage fees and if they decide to change flight times you won't be compensated if it affects your "other" flight. While I travel a lot with Ryanair I'd feel a lot safer with a through ticket with Lufthansa because if anything goes wrong with either leg they have to look after you plus luggage fees will be less.

Thanks for tip but we usually don't check in I keep fees to a minimum it will be two carry on rucksacks for us - careful clothes packing and products under
100ml :) I am going to do an early flight from Dub to UK so that if there happen to be changes with Wizzair or Easyjet we wont miss the second leg of the flight. Will have to wait another 2 mths I'd say for May 14 flights to load on system.

So you're prepared to hang around Luton or Stansted for hours but not Frankfurt? And if something goes wrong you have no comeback? If you have a long layover in Frankfurt you can take a train into the city for a couple of euro and have lunch. Try doing that in Stansted.

A lot depends on money and waiting times. I am going to wait till late Aug/early Sept hopefully Ryanair might have a few of the May 2014 flights loaded then. If waiting times are too long in Stansted/Luton will check out Germany/Austria as I think Air Adria/Lufthansa fly out of a lot of European cities

You're taking it for granted that Ryanair will be cheapest. I'd be amazed if you can beat Lufthansa's price in May.

As a Slovene, I can confirm it is sometimes difficult and frustrating trying to find appropriate flight to Slovenia. We are one of few countries (if not only one) where Ryanair doesn't flight at all.

Adria is ok, but usually way too expensive, I don't know what is with Dublin Ljubljana connection but everything around 300 eur directly, believe me, is pretty good.

I always recommend London - EasyJet from Stansted or Wizzair from Luton are most likely best possible options at the moment.

For shuttle transport from Marco Polo, Treviso or Trieste I recommend private shuttle company called GoOpti (www.goopti.com), cheap and reliable.
    Hopefully this post was helpful.

    Cheers, Ales Jevtic, Galway
