Diagnostics on a Fiat

    Hi.

    Wonder if anyone can recccomend a good mechanic for a Fiat (Grande Punto 16V) in the Dublin, Kildare Wicklow area and also whether a non Fiat garage can run a diagnostic check or whether Fiat have specialised equipment. I realise that a Fiat dealer may be the best option but I want to get a couple of items checked independently of the Fiat network; I bought the car from a Fiat main dealer and I just want a second unbiased opinion on a problem with the car throwing a fault light on the dash.

    Thanks for any advice

    What's the problem? Standard diag stuff should work failing that get a vagcom cable and use FiatECUscan to read any faults stored

    Thanks

    It is showing a message that states 'Hill Holder' 'Not Available' then 'Check handbook'. The amber warning light comes on and off intermittently.

    Dealer say that they cannot find a fault and also that the car does not have the hiil holder function - seems strange to me that the computer is giving a message for a non existent feature. The car is a 2007 GP 16V sporting

    Quite often it's a case of extra looms for extra equipment not in use from the factory giving bother. FE we had a new Marea TD100 in 1998 with drivers airbag and cutout in the dash where the passenger bag would be, yet every few thousand miles the airbag light would come on stating a fault for the passenger airbag even though it wasn't there :confused: eventually we traced it to the extra loom behind the dash giving bother!

    If it were me I'd source out which sensor/plug controls the hill start and make sure it wasn't corroded/connecting off something else :)

    Ok thanks again that is something to start with and cheers for the info on the Fiat ECU Scan. I did not even realise that I could do this myself so may be useful

    GP Sportings do have hill-holder;
    From a quick search, the error you're getting appears to be related either to brake switch adjustment, low battery or abs sensors.

    I live in Wicklow and I've used this guy a couple of times, http://www.markjohnstonmotors.ie/contact-mark-johnston-motors/ , ex Fiat dealer mechanic.
    Give him a call and describe the problem, he may have seen it before and advise you accordingly.

    Thanks for that. This is the sort of guy I was looking for.
