Im at a loss to guess how in the hell did that happen?

    :D

Is that a private clamping company or something?

They seemed to have been clamped on Mountpleasant terrace, near the canal in Ranelagh:

    https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Mountpleasant+Terrace,+Ranelagh,+Dublin,+Ireland&hl=en&sll=53.329034,-6.25931&sspn=0.003185,0.009602&oq=mountpleasant+terraceRanelagh,+County+Dublin,+Ireland&hnear=Mountpleasant+Terrace,+County+Dublin,+Ireland&t=m&z=16

I know the harbour police in Dun Laoghaire also clamp, along with some private companies in shopping centres and gated apartments etc.

Well in fairness it's like 2 feet into double yellow lines, so illegally parked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,035 ✭✭✭zg3409

I used google streetview and it is indeed this street. I got this parking sign from the other side of the street but I assume the same rules apply the other side of the street.

It is partly parked on the yellow lines, so if they had a permit, or had paid for parking, they still would be liable.

So who is responsible for clamping in Ranelagh?

Ranelagh clamping is provided courtesy of DSPS so hav they place a protective clamp on their own vehicle; a zero tolerance approach?

Prank played by their co-workers? DSPS (same as the van) look after clamping in Ranelagh

Either way I can't see the driver being too bothered. It's a mildly funny pic but hardly a story.

Why is there such a hatred of clampers? Yes it's ****ty but they're doing their job.

You know what I do not to get clamped, I buy a permit/parking ticket or park in places where clampers don't clamp.

I'm tempted to say it was lads at work having a laugh with their mates, but this would imply a level of prankish imagination. Clampers can't imagine, as their tiny little minds are fully occupied in keeping the knuckles of both hands dragging evenly, and in maintaining a steady flow of dribble that will last an entire shift. Also clampers don't have mates. This is because everybody they have ever met, and who will ever meet them, even if they only worked one day as a clamper, hates them. And rightfully so.

P.S. I hope there's at least one clamper who has developed at least a rudimentary level of literacy and reads this post (although I'd imagine it would need extensive help), and could convey the sentiment to it's 'colleagues'. Perhaps using chunky crayons, cardboard, primitive gestures, and grunting.

Remember when you were a poster and it was fun to take the unpopular side, every time, just to provoke a reaction out of people, especially when clamping comes up.

Memory in this case is a self replicating reality for anan1 of us

It's easier to attack the poster than to engage the issue, isn't it?

    Hey, it happens...

In the case of all but one the cowboy clamps, I arrived within 5 minutes of the time on the ticket. In two cases I was over. In the case of two the others though, I'd actually come back to the car ahead of time. The last time I was caught, I was clamped while getting change to pay the ticket. In a notorious spot for that kind of carry on, not too far from Dundrum. Suits me. My car is extra secure for the couple of hours it was clamped, and two minutes after getting the grinder out of the boot on my return...

The DCC clamp was the first one for me. A fair cop.

    :D

    ^^^^^^

dang - I had to google that - you learn something new everyday.

If you look here , and the first para of Corollaries & Usage, last sentence - is that where we are now ?? :)

sorry for the hijack - my personal lexicon just got a little thicker... :P

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
