    It was 23K in 2007.

I've a friend who started in Autumn 2012 on 20.5K in Dublin in KPMG

In Autumn 2012 at least 2 of the Big4 were offering €21,500 direct entry or €22,500 with a masters as far as I'm aware.

    Just a quick q.

Do they begin to pay more after, say, the first year, or once you've passed some exams?

Generally its based on passing your exams.

It's hard to say, it would vary between practices.

When I was doing my ACA (13 years ago!!), we got a pay rise of about €2,000 each time we passed exams.

Back then it was Prof 2, 3 and FAE...

I'll be going tax exams so might be different, I guess!

Starting salary has probably changed but was 22k for me back in 2007.
As for increases - I know where I trained you did go up a small amount on a yearly basis but this was bigger if you passed your exams. Even if you did repeats (which were after the increases were applied), you got the extra bit after that. Was bout the same for audit & tax in my place.

€23.5k for tax with a masters (approx)

€600 bonus (approx) for passing Part 2s

Pay increases every september based on passing exams/job performance

What about without a masters? I'm doing a pg conversion course which, AFAIK, wouldn't be classed as a Masters.

Usually a grand less without the masters.

Generally what is the start date for big 4? Is it mid September-October?

When I was there they took them on in groups so your start date could be any time from the beginning of September to mid-October. I remember getting a letter round July time saying the exact start date.

Jesus, so it doesn't really give you much options for travelling next summer.

If you request to start in one of the later intakes, they'll usually be accommodating.

It depends on which of the 4 you're going into and whether its assurance, tax or advisory. They all have different start dates.

At least 3 months that summer, 4 weeks annual leave every year plus overtime in lieu (for those in audit mainly and not EY) and as long as you want when you finish your contract is plenty of time to travel.

They'll send out the start date in loads of time & if you're travelling etc you can just tell them that.

They moved mine back for me as I had to sit an exam the day I was meant to start. Not a problem.

Plus like the others have said - you do get annual leave & overtime in lieu that you can use to travel. Course you have to use a bit of the overtime for your study leave but still good. Plenty of people manage a fair time away each year.

I've found BrightWater to be accurate enough, and you can assume that a Big 4 is going to be near the upper edge of each scale.

Its been a long time since I started, and the market has changed so much, I dont know where salaries are at now.
