I need a break lol I'm starting a new Company shortly but have most of the leg work done and only internet/laptop based work to do - It's been a stressful time.

I've decided I will leave Ireland in Oct/Nov for 3 Months and travel somewhere to live on the cheap. My reasons for going were that I would be spending a fortune on rent here and make little to no sales over these months anyway so may aswell be abroad somewhere nice working on the laptop when it suits me.

I'll have approx €2k or €2.5k spending money - WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

    I'm thinking:
    • Beach
    • €20 per day
    • decent Internet connection
    • quiet by day but somewhere to party by night
    • somewhere other english speakers visit but not a "couples spot"
Look forward to hearing the suggestions!!

Beautiful spot but you'd blow most of the budget on airfare. And the beach is about an hour away with no electricity last time I was there.

OP 3 months at €20 a day is €1,800 which doesn't leave you much left over.

I think somewhere in SE Asia might get you beach and a decent long term let within your budget but that's getting into the high season there too.

If you need to work all day I not sure how much work you'll get done in hostels etc.

Cheers, Yeah I had thought of the islands in Thailand. Some of the places Ive been there would be perfect for sitting on the beach with a laptop like Koh Tao but I'm looking for new ideas.

I was considering zanzibar too as it would be perfect but Ive been too many times before :/

I'll probably have a bit more than 2.5 to be honest but im trying to budget as much as possible

I've travelled around South America but sheeeesh this place really looks to hit the spot. It looks gorgeous, the cafe culture would be awesome for sitting around on the laptop.....any hints on where I can get more info re cost of living?

    Thanks

You could try the Thorn Tree Forum on Lonely Planet to talk to people who are travelling there at the moment.

Your problem here is that these two are going to conflict with each other. The best/most economic areas I've been to have poor internet connections, unless you pay 100 euro a night for a hotel room, and I'm assuming you don't want to spend most of your time in a hotel room.

Beyond that, I thought Thailand too - but stay away from Bangkok if reports are anything to go by.

    How about Rio?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Rio very expensive by backpacker standards and getting more so coming up to World Cup next year. Other parts of Brazil may fit the bill though.

Wasn't aware of anything in Bangkok, Was there in February must look it up.Koh Tao and other islands had great connections but to be fair you're right about this and it's proving my stumbling block alright - No hotels...hostel or bungalow, ill find a quiet corner to work :)

6 years since I was there so can't say these days.

    http://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/cartagena

seems to be 2500 peso to the euro from xe.com

as suggested try lonelyplanet. I'd up your budget to 30 euro a day. go there stay in a nice hostel, then find an apt to share with some people for a while.

anywhere in Brazil will be too expensive - currency is strong there now.
