Bike Warranty

    Hi,

Bought a bike on the cycle to work scheme in September 2011 but only really been using it the last three months and maybe 4 months after I bought it because of a neck injury. In the last 6 weeks I've had to replace the chain and now I've to replace the bottom bracket. I spent a good deal of money on the bike, around €450 and I'm disappointed to have so many problems with it especially with so little use. I feel I should go back to the shop and say they should fix it but unsure about warranty on itmes like this.
Has anyone any idea on how long a bike should be covered for?

12 months is probably the time limit for any warranty claims regardless of how little or much use it has had.

Did you service the bike before you started using it again because if you didn't then that's the reason you needed to replace the chain and the BB. They were possibly partially seized and using them again without oiling/cleaning them stressed them to the point they needed replacing.

Can I just add and I don't mean to sound insulting but 450 is in around the the cost of a lowish spec budget bike and the reason they're cheap is because they use lower spec parts that generally don't last.

Chain and bottom bracket wouldn't usually be covered by warranty (and certainly not after 2 years!) - they would be considered "wear" items.
