not sure how much it is to replace, but wat i would do is just by pass it this is done quiet a bit on vw diesel engines(mk4) as it gives a lot of trouble, most of the time they build up with rubbish from the engine and the value sticks, if shouldnt effect the engine it might result in less mpg but some say it increases mpg, i have mines by-passed for years now and have had no trouble and i get 55mpg

Is the egr valve completly dead? Have you tried cleaning it by soaking it in carb cleaner?

I know very little about diesel engines, but 570 sounds steep to me. Timing belt change wouldn't cost you that.

How old is the car, if having the work done in a main dealers is not a priorty, then going to a good indie mechanic could reduce the cost a good bit

Cleaning may help but if its flagging egr faults then it maybe a problem on the position side of the egr valve.
The last egr valve i fitted on this engine (1.6 hdi) came from ebay (u.k.) and it worked out around 180 euros delivered.
It should take about an hour to fit + coding in...Tbh any good independent garage with dealer level diagnostics should able to fit/code in this for you..:)

There are two types of egr valves on the focus..one like this..

    and one like this...

So have alook to see which one you need.;)

    Wow, mental price.
I replaced mine in 2010 (mondeo) and I got it off traynors in the North. It cost me 50 euro and I put it in myself with the help of a youtube video.

Have the chassis number and exact make and model of the EGR valve and ring them.
If not do a parts search online, there are part finders everywhere.

That is the vacuum solenoid that controls a vacuum operated egr valve...the egr valve on a 1.6 tdci is electric and its location is here..;)

The EGR on the ford instances of the DV6 is supposed to have an adaptation (learn parameters) carried out using a suitable scantool when its replaced. Otherwise the ECU may not control the valve properly and cause running faults (flat spots, heistation, stalling etc). So you know what you might expect if you just replace the valve without setting it up on the scan tool ;) Also there is an ECU upgrade which modifies EGR operation to (a) help it keep clean and (b) control backsurge in the intake to stop the MAF becoming coated with oil. If your car is an older model then these updates may not have been applied.

OP, I'd chance getting the valve cleaned and check the continuity of the stepper motor with a multimeter. If it's electrically ok then the valve might become serviceable again with a good clean.

Also, when you remove the valve, check the manifold for a build up of coke and sludge. Any crap will all need to removed before replacing the valve otherwise the valve may jam again.

These valves cannot be bypassed or blanked off. The entire system is electronically managed and doing anything like that will cause additional fault codes or even limp mode. The EGR on the DV6 also serves as a defacto wastegate by controlling boost pressure.

And finally, those with the least crap in the airways are usually serviced frequently with the right oil. :)

Quoted €700 today for a new EGR valve for 2011 1.2 Seat Ibiza TDI, that doesn't include labour. Absolutely shocking.
