A rattle has recently occurred, have been told its the timing chain beginning to go, wondering if anyone knows how big and expensive a problem this might me?

    Thanks.

Generally timing chains will last the life of the car but sometime they stretch, sometimes it's a pulley.
It could be something else, there's plenty of parts in the engine that will make a similar rattle. Flywheels for instance.
Before going down that road I'd get someone else to check, specifically someone who knows Fords.
