Hi guys, I'm having some friends over for a boozy lunch on Saturday to start off a birthday party.

Would anyone care to share their sangria recipes?

As potent as you like :)

Cheap wine is essential. From my experience, most people, including my Spanish OH, make it with carton wine, which is certainly not the gourmand's choice. Ultimately it doesn't matter though as the taste is changed so much by the other ingredients.

The Guardian did this piece on sangria recipes but I would leave out the rose and just add more red wine. Rose just seems too extravagant.

Lemon and chopped apple are nice, along with slices of orange.

You could change the brandy for some dark rum as well.

Finches would probably be a good soft drink to add - it has more of a tang than Fanta and at least gives the impression that there's some fruit it in.
