    Hi,

I just discovered I'll need to pay full tuition fees (7330) this year when I return to NUIG, as I didnt complete my last degree. I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about appealing this?

    Thanks.

On what grounds would you want to appeal?

Immaturity and personal complications? Is it possible to appeal?

Same reason as anyone who fails then.

As far as I know, no.

You must pay for each year you've already started in college.
So, for example, if you did 2 years of a course and the fees were paid by the government you will have to pay those 2 years in your new course, then if there is a 3rd/4th year it will be covered. I don't think there is an appeals process and if there is I feel it would have to be truly exceptional circumstances that would qualify.

This is just my understanding of the system but I believe it's accurate.

Don't think I said anywhere in my first message anything about failing...passed everything :D

Well I started and finished first year, so will I need to pay full fees for three years then?:confused:

No, I'm fairly sure you would have to pay for 1st year but not 2nd or 3rd. Give the fees office a ring and they can give you a definite answer

How did you not finish your degree if you passed everything?

Why does that make a difference to the question asked? I'd prefer if you didn't comment if you have nothing worth while to say, boredom is a terrible thing!:D

I'm interested as to how you didn't get a degree if you passed everything, therefore asking you seems relatively worthwhile for me.

Seems immaturity may still be an issue for you.

It's quite simple....as an irish citizen, the government will pay for 4 years of college for you.....so if you've already done 1 year in the past an now you decide to go back and start over again, you will have to pay for the first year and you will qualify for "free education" for the remaining years of the degree.

He said he didn't complete his course, so I'd imagine he passed all his exams in first year and then dropped out.

If you dropped out you failed to complete your course. Emphasis on failed.

There is a second chance grant if your last college year was 5 years ago, unfortunately Im two years of that myself

The OP asked a question about the fees system....not for judgment on what they did in their previous time in college.

Well last time I checked, a degree in science takes four years not one?

Thanks for proving my point though!

I'm not judging them, but the reasons they gave for failing to complete their course were not special or extenuating therefore it is unlikely they will be given any special dispensation. That is what the thread is asking about.

Last time I checked "everything" means everything and not just one-quarter of the course. You can argue semantics all you want, makes little difference to me or to your situation.

I actually didn't explain in full what grounds I wanted to appeal on,I simply asked if its possible. If whatever I'm saying makes little difference to you, please don't keep clogging up this thread with things that are a little irrelevant.

Also, I clearly meant everything in the one year I did, I did state I did one year only. Seems to me that your only trying to prove yourself right, whether you are or not. :D

And in a similar fashion it seems you only want to hear the answers that suit you. Good luck with the appeal I'm sure you'll be grand. Sure if they say no just tell them their answer is irrelevant.

I'm open to all answers if their anyways helpful, guess yours wasn't! If you don't know the answer to the question theres probably not much point in trying to answer...

I don't think you've grounds for it OP. But, if you stay out of education for a few years you could return as a mature student?

I got this course by applying as a mature student this year (I'm 23), I'd be afraid if I let it go this time I wouldn't get it again as it is so competitive :(

It's also too late for me to defer :(

Do Mature Students still qualify for the grant? Could help you out a bit if they do!

They do but because I'll be paying for full fees I won't be eligible for the grant, that's according to the fees office in NUIG :(

I get so much amusement from some posts/posters in the NUIG forum! That is all.
