All of the news reports just mention an incident and a death.

No other injuries, no malfunctioning equipment.

    Almost certainly a suicide.

    Hope the driver is okay.

RIP. I can't imagine what sort of horrific state of mind would lead someone not just to kill themselves but to do it in such a painful and grisly manner. I can't imagine it's a quick way to go, given the number of people who seem to survive long enough for paramedics to try to save them :(

It's moronic how they report this in the media. They claim to avoid mention of suicide in case they inspire copycats so instead the word "incident" has become synonymous with "someone jumped". At this stage I feel they may as well come out and say it to avoid speculation such as in this thread, all over Twitter, on the railway forum etc every time something like this happens... It'd get far less publicity that way surely

RIP to the poor person. I feel sorry for the person's family and the driver.

If it was a case of suicide..

In 2010, there were 525 cases of suicide in Ireland (and possibly more that was branded as accidents) and 12,216 cases of self harm involving 9,834 people presented in hospitals.

    NSRF stats

    Time to fúcking do something.

Sadly, they're still working on a cure for a miserable life.

    Talk about jumping to conclusions...

At least give those close to the deceased a chance to come to terms with it before automatically labelling it as a suicide.

Didn't a similar accident happen just over a week ago, closer to Dublin?

In that case, it was a woman, as far as I can recall

Near Adamstown. From what I heard (heresay) a young woman crossing the line perhaps on her phone in the dark after getting off at wrong station or missing stop. Out of service train returning to Dublin

Very sad. Commiserations to both families and the drivers involved too.

I read in the paper when it happened that she had got off 1 stop too far after a night out and was trying to walk back one stop. She then tripped and fell and was knocked unconscious and then she was hit by a train :( so a genuine accident there.

Very sad, I know a driver & he actually hit someone committing suicide while on the Cork to Dublin one day - he has never been the same. He used to tell us about people playing chicken with the trains too ! I can't imagine what it would be like & hope never to ! RIP.

    No they weren't .

The 405pm train from Heuston didn't get into Newbridge until 805pm yesterday

The 510pm train didn't get into Newbridge until 840pm

They were both stopped for long periods

For some reason they didn't tell people at the station that they were operating with massive delays

The majority of the evening delays were due to a combination of a failed train between Sallins and Newbridge and a signal failure at Cherryville junction outside Kildare and not the incident at Kildare in the morning.
