Just had a quick glance. One thing that strikes me is the apparent rush to complete the "leaving the runway" checklist even though they were still on the runway. I see no mention of this as being a contributory factor at all so maybe its a red herring. Had they cleaned up once taxiing at relatively low speed then my reading of the report is that the weight on wheels switch should have prevented the gear from retracting.

For what its worth our procedures are that the after landing checklist is only commenced once we have vacated the runway, are at taxi speed, are in receipt of a clearance and are BOTH happy that we know where we are going. Only then does one of us go heads down and clean up the aircraft.

I may be missing something here beacuse I had a quick skim through but it is stated in the report that the gear lever was selected "UP" however they realised this error and quickly returned it to "DOWN"....but surely if this was the case they would have actually consciously realised the lever had been moved and thus known how and when it happened.

When we are landing we dont clean things up until we are off the runway and know where we are heading to. This is largely due to the fact that we are expediting our exit and targeting our braking so as to exit the runway as quick as is safely practical. You get down get the spoilers and reversers etc in and slow it to a speed that you can make a turn off at. One guy is going to be actually controlling her and having a good look out to make sure nobody else is about and the other is going to be looking to make sure the systems are all showing what they should and there are no fire/failure indications. Get turned off, get on to ground, get directions and THEN when you have read back the taxi clearance and what not you get her cleaned up.

As an instructor told me: "You're not only there to fly it, you're there to drive it when it is HGV too"

PS: I'm not rated on a Metro but I'd imagine you'd look like a right knob if you switch off the booster pumps and both engines shut down on the runway.....
