Aircon not great

I have a ten year old avensis and there is a bit of a smell coming out of my aircon and it is not as powerful as it used be.
Is this a DIY sort of solution or will I need to take it to some sort of specialist?

New pollen filter would be job number one and if that doesn't sort it there is a cleaning spray you can get for the system

I used one bought in Halfords, but it was a good deal dearer, around €30 or €40. Aircon on recirculate and max cold , windows up, engine running, front seats as forward as you can go. Crack the aerosol and place it on the raised hump of the rear footwell (between the seats.

Get out of the car and leave it running for 10 mins. ensure you have a spare key to lock / unlock your running car....:o

Then turn off ac, and open windows and ventilate the car REALLY well before you drive it. (or you will pass out)

It really, really works though and your car will smell lovely.

Would recommend leaving out the new filter before the treatment. Then putting it in.

If your aircon is not as powerful as it used to be it needs a re-gas. Fastfit do it for 50 quid including the deodorising.

My aircon is also all but stopped working. Got a quote for a full service including changing the oil in the compressor, clean and regas etc. € 140 plus vat. Is this very expensive?

My wife's Qashqai is pretty much blowing warm air - Would this be fixed by a re-gas?

Will kill any bacteria in the bottle which may be causing the smell more than likely

Called to a garage in the city today - Auto max garage - they sorted it took about an hour and a bit but it made a huge difference to the car

    Which washer bottle?
The windscreen water bottle is not connected in any way to the a/c.

Is there somewhere else I should put the milton.

the funny smell is usually caused by a clogged up drain in the heating/cooling system. water caused by condensation in the system turns stagnant giving a fishy smell in the car. If you can find the drain and clean it out it should help. The self fill cans for the aircon kind of work but you are better off getting it filled properly. there has to be a vacuum in the system to get the correct amount of r134a in and for it to work properly. also you may have a leak somewhere in the system that would need fixing for it to be successful

Is that a special offer? I've another issue with air supply in the car but I'd imagine the gas also needs to be topped up.
