99 Civic timing belt changed at 46,000 miles or thereabouts. Mileage now just gone 96,000 miles with full oil change 3mths ago. Just had to get both back box and middle pipe replaced so can't afford to do the timing belt just yet.

Am I pushing it or would another oil change at the end of the summer tide me over for another bit?

Timing belts are difficult to gauge , however I have seen ones 90k miles that haven't been changed so my opinion is that it should be okay for another while.:P

Oil change has nothing to do with the timing belt, get it done asap or risk saying goodbye to the engine.
It could go tomorrow or it could last well beyond 60k but don't take the risk

When it comes to timing belts the question is not if you can afford to change the belt, its whether or not you can afford to change the engine. Youre probably fine at the moment with 50k on the current belt, but its up to you how much further you want to push it.

It'll be another few months before i can scrape some cash together (endless bills at the moment). I'm likely to do another 1-2k miles i'd say. I was just wondering is the 50k rule strict enough or is the general consensus there's a bit of leeway on it.

that depends on how long the current belt is on. the belts in these do 60k miles so you are within that limit however if its on longer than five years id be changing it because the rubber in the belt degrades over time and if its past its best the chances of it breaking are high.

also at that mileage you will also have to factor in the cost of a timing belt kit and water pump.

Would you have an idea of how much roughly?

Belt kit, water pump and labour cost about €250 for my Integra. Cant see it costing much more for a Civic.

Definitely get that timing belt changed, it's not worth taking a chance, because a new engine or new car will be more expensive obviously.
