Spouse's Income and JSA Query?

    Hi,

    I hope someone can help me with this query. I have looked everywhere for an answer to this and am still confused about Jobseekers allowance and how it is calculated.

    I am coming off JB soon and will be going on to JA. My partner, who I am co-habiting with, works full time and earns approx 361 per week after PRSI deductions.

    Would this mean that the breakdown of my Jobseekers Allowance claim could look like this:

    JA allowance rate - 188
    less spouse's means from work - 180.6 ( I got this figure by taking 60 euro from 361 euro and getting 60% of this)

    Total = 7.40 euro!

    Is this correct?

    I noticed that on some other forums they add an increase for adult dependent of 124.80 to the Ja allowance figure before subtracting the 180.60 which gives approx 132 euro. This would be a lot better as im looking to start a 4 year degree on BTEA and I don't think I'll be able to start this course if I get only 7.40 per week. I also read that if the spouse earns over 310per week then you can not add this 124.80??

    If anyone could shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance

    Assuming €361 is after prsi deductions ad not before usc and tax is taken off then €132 is what you will receive on JSA (this is also assuming that you dont have savings >€20000 and dont have a second property.
    You cannot get adult dependant on jsb if partners earnings are >€310.

    Thank you very much for that information. That certainly clears it up. I was confusing JSA with JSB. Cheers.
