Causal JA to full dole?

I am working 3 days a week the last 2 months and signing on the other 3 days, giving in casual docs every week.
I got offered a college place and I want to try get the BTEA. I've enough days signing on to apply. But I have to be back on the dole before I apply for the BTEA, whatever dole I get before going on the BTEA is what I'll get if I am successful with my BTEA application.
I've no work contract. I wondered how long it takes if I walk into my dole office tomorrow and say I'm no longer working at all. Plus will I need a letter or anything from the employer I'm with now? I'm just working for the summer, I could have work until October or be let go tomorrow.
It is hard to know what to do. I know ususally if you just leave a job you have to wait 9 weeks before you get dole, if I did that now I'd just about have the 9 weeks before college starts and I apply for BTEA. I can't apply for BTEA until the last week in August as they don't look at them until then.
So do I need to ask my employer to let me go now?
