    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere in the Dublin city area who is selling bikes at around the €200 mark? Just for short distance commuting around the city?

    Thanks a mil,

    Sara

You'd get a hybrid or racer for that second hand on adverts or donedeal I'd say. You'll get way better value that way.

I bought a racer recently cause I do the odd 60-80 cycle and the racer offers more positions for that sort of distance vs a hybrid. Although that said you might find the hybrid set up closer to a mountain bike style that might suit you. Try both out then buy from there I'd say.

Rothar on Fade St or in Cabra (?) or Square Wheel cycle Works in Temple Bar are the usuals.

If you decide you want something a bit nicer later on it's better to know what you're looking for as there are plenty of chancers selling Supermarket junk bikes (More commonly known as BSOs - Bicycle Shaped Objects) online and it's hard to know what you want first time round.

MacDonald's Cycles on Wexford Street is selling second hand serviced ex-rental mountain bikes for €150 or so at the moment. They look to be in decent nick and sturdy - but also heavy. Might be worth checking out and taking a test-ride, but I wouldn't be wildly optimistic!

If you know what you're looking for, Adverts, etc is a great resource. Otherwise, start with Rothar, Square Wheel and Dublin Bike Man. I've heard great things about Rothar, and varying reports about the other two.

For what it's worth, I'd be recommending an older, lightish single speed racer. Nothing fancy, nothing too shiny. Get mudguards for the winter. It'll be light, reliable and easy to get fixed up.

This. Also get a can of spray oil and put a bit on your chain every day/keep your tyres pumped abd you'll really keep it cheap.

Some bike shops are inclined to give you problemitis of the bicycle.
