College Fees HELP!

    Hi,

I'm looking for information on the fees I need to pay this year as I'm returning to college.
I did one year of Science in NUIG in 2008/2009.
I did my exams but decided not to return for 2nd year. Does this decision effect the fees I may have to pay this year? Or will I be paying the usual Student Contribution (€2500) and the Student Levy (€224)?

    Thanks :o

Are you returning to finish your course, or starting a new course?
In the case of the latter, you'll be liable for full fees (tuition, student contribution, and levy) for your first year in your new course. You'll also be ineligible for a student grant.
For subsequent years you'll be eligible for free fees again, and may be eligible for the grant.

I'm starting a new course  I applied as a mature student though (I'm 23) and I've accepted my course so will I still need to pay the whole lot?:confused::confused:

If you still want to do the course you'll need to pay the fees, although just because you've accepted it doesn't mean you have to do it. You can still change your mind and not register.

One thing to note is that you may meet the criteria next year as a "second chance student", since you will be 5 years out of education since you dropped out (assuming it isn't abolished in the budget in November). If you wait until next year to start you should be eligible for free fees again.

I did science in nuig for the year 2009/2010 and dropped out after I failed all my summer exams

I'm now in GMIT since last year and I was basically freaking out over the same thing... I had to pay full fees for the year, no extras, although I wasnt able to get the grant for first year

So you had to pay just over seven grand for first year? And what about every year after?

Where and what have you applied for? IT fees and NUI fees are very different.

My understanding is that for year 1 you will probably have to pay full fees -

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Hi there,

Returning to education myself in September after previously dropping out last year, I still owe the University fees from my previous course and am just wondering will I be admitted to the the new university even though I haven't paid them? Does my name flash up on some system? The new course is costing me over 5500, Im just wondering as well will they figure it out straight away or will I have some time? and could they kick me out even though i've paid all my fees there but still owe the previous university money. I have the 5500 off a loan I will be getting but i cant cover the other fees.

    Thanks, R_V_P.

I am Irish so according to this do I need to pay €7,330 p.a. 2013/14 (Inclusive of Levy & SCC)?

I think that is what you do have to pay for year 1 yes

For one of the nursing courses, you'll have to pay that. If you had waited a year, you could have been considered a second chance student. Just because you applied as a mature applicant, it doesn't reset the tab.
