Questions about the old and new primary school curriculum

    Hi,

I'm planning on entering into a course to become a primary school teacher, and I hear the interviewer asks you about "the old vs. the new curriculum". I have no idea to what this refers. What is the old curriculum, when did we get a new one and what is the difference? If there is a website that highlights the gist of these points, I'd greatly appreciated a link.

Well there's the 1977 curriculum (I think the date's right) and the 1999 New Revised Curriculum.

The 1999 one is the one we currently use in schools but there have been some changes to it since 1999, predominantly in English. They've made it more clear I think, with more of a focus on the three main aspects of language- Oral Language, Reading and Writing. There was a document in the last 2 years about Literacy and Numeracy too which has increased the amount of time spent on those subjects.

I can't imagine them focusing too much on the 1977 curriculum because it's well gone now.

The main site for the irish curriculum is www.ncca.ie
