It seems like an eternity since I travelled with Aer Lingus.

How strict are they on Hand luggage sizes? I have a carry on case, but it's about 58-60 cm in height. On their website they have 55cm height as the limit.

I have one of those too and I never have a problem with Ryanair or Aer Lingus. It is bigger than the maximum but nobody ever cares :\

They are as strict as the person on the desk. Many times i have gone through many times i have been stopped. Even though my bag is under. It appears larger. So ive had it in the metal cage alot of times.

Why not relief the hastle and get a suitcase to the actual dimensions ?

They are not a strict as Ryanair. As long as you dont look like you a struggling with it, or it doesn't look like its over loaded, you will probably be okay.

Thanks for the replies. I might just risk it. If there are any problems I'll just kick the wheels off so it's under 55cm! :D

I've never found Aer Lingus to be picky regarding carr-on luggage.

However I wish they would be.

I've been on a couple of flights lately that had delayed daparture with people bringing their whole lives onboard as carryon.

Can be worse on a full trans-atlantic.
They yanks take the p*ss with the size of the bags they like to take on.

I find with Aer Lingus it's more the weight than the size that they check. Went to Madrid last month, coming back all bags were weighed as you had to check in at the desk. Lots of people had carry on so they took bags in the hold for free.

God i hate people bringing oversized bagggage onto planes. if the plane is full it means that there isnt enough room in the overhead lockers and then some bags have to go in the hold. The dicks that bring the oversized bags are grand as they are clogging up all the space but some of the rest have to get their bags stored in the hull, wasting everones time. Thanks to people like the op!

Hey! I haven't brought on my bag yet! I was merely enquiring, hence the OP. From your post, I can only assume you think I'm a "dick"!

I've been to the US twice this year with the same bag and had no issues with fitting it in the overhead locker (on AA and United). I only wanted to know if the fact that it's slightly over the 55cm guideline (by only 2 cm) if it would be a problem. If it is, then I've absolutely no problem in downsizing or leaving the bag at home.
