Hollywood and black presidents

I'm just watching a movie at the moment, which has a white president in the White House and a thought occurred to me; America has had a black president since 2008 and in those 5 years, I can't think of many Hollywood movies (and TV shows too, for that matter) that have had a black president. The only one I can think off the top of my head at all is Morgan Freeman in Deep Impact.

There's probably been more, but I just found it odd that before Obama, they would have black presidents as a novelty or whatever, yet this has become even less since then.

Can anyone actually think of any? I never really watched 24, but I think that was a black president.

Jamie Foxx is in White House Down. Deep Impact came out 15 years ago so that way predates Obama's presidency. Idiocracy has a black president too :pac:

The last couple of episodes of the West Wing had Jimmy Smitts as a Latino president. Parts of the US would look down on a Latino as much as a black person as POTUS.

Danny Glover played POTUS in 2012.

    Wasn't there a black president in 24?

Edit: Damn x2. Beaten to it!

Will Smith is probably holding out to play Obama himself. Without aliens and ray guns unless something unforeseen happens in the next three years.

Ha, I meant that it was the only movie I could think of that had a black president in it. Forgot about Jamie Foxx in White House Down and Danny Glover in 2012.

It just seems odd that the majority of the movies (and TV too) have constantly chosen a white president.

Thought Daniel Day Lewis got that gig

Morgan Freeman played the president in Deep Impact

Chris Rock was president in Head of State

The majority of presidents have been white, so it evens out, I guess. Not many women presidents that I can think of, either.

Has there really been all that many films that feature the American president in recent years? When it comes to cinema and representation of characters such as a president I couldn't care less if they are white, black, green or orange as long as the actor was cast for their abilities. There J's nothing worse than a film that casts a poor actor in a role simply because they resemble a real person.

    Abraham Lincoln
    Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Admittedly, it would be hard to cast a black actor in either of those roles.

I could easily buy a black Abe Lincoln killing vampires.

Especially if it was someone like Samuel L. Jackson. I would seriously go see that movie.

Correct, but I'm sure there's nothing racist if they chose a white for president, not that I'm suggesting you were thinking in that line

Not sure what happened to my reply but it seems to have disappeared.

Anyways, cool as it would be to see Sam Jackson kicking all kinds of vampire ass I guarantee that if it happened critics around the world would be complaining about how historically inaccurate it is for Ol' Honest Abe to be played by a black actor.

Not a movie, but that awful tripe TV show The Event had Blair Underwood as US President.
