    Hi all,
I'm cancelling Sky today and will be keeping the box. I know I can get the UK freeview channels like BBC1, 2 and HD but what about C4 and ITV.

When the card is out of the box (simulating a cancelled contract), these two channels are in the "Other Channels" and I need a card to access them?

What channels are available to me, and should I do anything to receive extra channels before I cancel?

    Thanks!

If you pull out the card, switch off the box completely, and then restart it, BBC1 London should appear at 101, BBC2 at 102, ITV 1 at 103 etc. It always works on the older SD boxes, so maybe the HD boxes behave the same. Someone will know for sure. You will lose the Irish channels. You probably need a month's notice too, so don't rush to pull the card today, may as well get your money's worth (if that is possible from Sky)

HD boxes do not behave the same. Restart the box with no card to see what happens.

Yep, when I restart the box without the card, it stays as an Irish box.

An expired or cancelled card still works to access "other channels". It will ask for the PIN which I assume you know.

If you have sky plus, make sure you watch your recorded programmes, because once the subscription is cancelled, they are removed too

Request an FTV card from Setanta under the BAI scheme for free (but don't activate it). It will make the HD box behave like a UK box so you wont need other channels at all, they will be on the EPG.
