BMW 3 Series 316d ES Saloon (2013)(Audio any good?)

What sort of audio/stereo is this BMW 3 Series 316d ES Saloon (2013) likely to have? Are they any good or are they just typical OEM quality that comes with most new cars? It comes with a DAB digital radio but would that mean anything as regards good FM reception, sound? I have a 2011 VW Jetta with standard RNS 310 which sounds very mediocre at best. Would the 316d ES audio be much better?

in fairness the audio in most cars is muck.
I think BMW offer 2 upgrades to the standard audio package which enhance it alright.
I had the standard setup in my E60 and its shíte to be honest. At least in my ears

I'm not big in to my audio, but the standard set up in my E60 is pretty pants. Really can't handle the bass without distorting.

Not 100% sure, but I'd say it's the same in the 3 series.

Agree, the basic stereo on the E60 is grim. Having a 6 CD changer so you can barely hear 6 CDs as opposed to one properly is annoying to say the least. Seems better in the E90 with the "Professional" audio. but just one CD.

If you want a decent audio system, I'd look at Audi or Lexus....

The basic sound system is very dull

The newer models are equipped with a better built-in amplifier (In the radio when you don't have any sound upgrade package) compared to previous models, sound better, but still far from good.

If you want a decent sound system, order the TOP Hifi option or go aftermarket. A good aftermarket system will outperform the TOP hifi system. Will cost more than the TOP hifi option though from factory but will sound much better.

It's the entry level ES model with the entry level diesel engine so don't expect a decent stereo unless someone went mad on the options list.

On a side note the sound system in my E90 is decent enough but the system that comes as part of the iDrive could be different to the standard one.

I don't think DAB radio is available in Tipp yet. I think there is some testing in Waterford.

I have a current 3 series model with the standard audio.
I would not be an expert with regard to sound quality but I do know enough to know it is rubbish.
