DIY guitar, 335 style

I Just found the website crazyparts.de. They have bodies for 335 style guitar DIY projects. They seem as if they are good quality. i was thinking of buying an es-335 style guitar in the 500 euro region( ie epiphone Sheraton,Hofner contemporary very thin , ibanez artcore, something similar). I am now thinking for not much more than my set budget, and more importantly much less than the cost of one of the aforementioned guitars American counterparts, i could put together a 335 style guitar using one of these bodies as the foundation and buying aftermarket hardware and pickups.

Looking for opinions or advice here, particularly from any one with experience in luthier-y or guitar building and maintenance. Basically, Will the extra money paid on a project like this be worth it? Will I get a much better guitar, for less than the cost of a Gibson 335 say, by cutting out the productions costs and putting it together myself?

    quite possibly.

the downfall will be the finish.

if you like the idea of a Rory Galagher semi then you're laughing, but getting a pro finish is REALLY hard.

Of course I have seen Rory's strat man, I am not too worried about a paint job man, you can get bodies from this company with a flame maple top. Like I said these bodies look quite high quality

Youll be up over €700 by the time you finish
Thats an expensive diy project that youll never get your money back on

buy a used Shearton etc. & mod the crap out of it

I agree with Wild Turkey. Or just get one of the new 50th Anniversary Sheratons, which don't need modding at all.

Archtops are great. They resonate like no solid-body can and sound so smooth.

    Here's my Gretsch Annie:
