We are going to France 29th July for 16 days with Irish Ferries and are just looking for ideas about nice areas to tour.
We have been to Normandy before and want to go a bit further this time without going a big distance. We are thinking of staying inland and we like small nice villages with campsites that are not to large but must have swimming pools.

There will be myself and my wife and our two children aged 11 and 15.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Have a look at http://www.camping-municipal.org/ where you can choose from hundreds of municipal sites, some have pools, others are next to safe swimming lakes and all are fantastic value for money, most at less than €15 per night for unit, two people and electric hook-up so with two children you should have a bit of change out of €20.

Along the Loire valley is stunning. Tours and Angers area has plenty of sites that should fit your requirements well. And it's not am extensive drive either.

Nearly every town has one so I never thought of buying a book. You could make notes from the website before you go.
The large supermarkets usually have a section with all sorts of books to do with camp-site listings and motorhome Aires.

The facilities and value/costs in France for motorhoming and camping are unbelievably good compared to what we are used to here.

You will pick up a book in any of large newsagents which lists the Municipals. I have used the website on Niloc's link for quite a number of years now and find it excellent. Many of the smaller municipal site (€8 per night or less) can be really clean and simple and ideal for a night or 2 stopover. I have also found the managers of the municipals to be extremely welcoming and very proud of their village and surrounds (communaute).

The munis are the way to go in my opinion but try a few and see for yourself.
