    Hi all,
Torn between these two hotels. Would prefer the radisson but have heard some negatives about it namely room is so big that it lacks atmosphere (even for 330 ppl) and that the food isn't great. Has anyone been to a wedding there? We know the salthill hotel is v good but wanted 2 do something a bit different!
    Thanks!

    Hi,

We also looking for a venue at the moment and have looked at both of these hotels. Have attended weddings in both and I think the Salthill Hotel would be my preference.
I will give a few things that threw me off the Radisson before we even got in to meet the planner. When we arrived at the hotel, obviously the parking is underground so we went underground and driving around down there trying to find parking near to the hotel entrance which we couldn't see and we ended up back out to exit at which point our ticket would not work to exit, I hat to find a paystation while OH waited at barrier. Paid 2.30 to get out and then we had to go back in again!!! So we probably got off on the wrong foot with it initially but the whole paid underground parking thing put me off.
The room is also huge and I know they can section it off but the wedding we attended there we felt it was very big and that was a wedding of 400ppl.
Food also at that wedding was grand but nothing out of the ordinary. I also didn't like the sensation that the room feels like its in a basement.

We felt same about Salthill hotel that so many people are getting married there but it a lovely room and really nice reception area and the food was good there at the wedding we attended. Also parking is no issue and the room rates are more reasonable.
Also for pictures you have the Millenium Park beside the Salthill hotel and of course the prom and the beach whereas with Radisson your back drop is Lough Atalia.

Just my thoughts, I know everyone has there own little things.....
Have you been to see Connemara Coast?? A little bit outta town but very nice also!!
Best of luck with your planning whatever you decide :) (we still have not chosen!!)

Avoid the raddison, I've been to two weddings there and would never have my own wedding there. They must not get a lot of weddings as the staff always seem a bit clueless (I mean the management now, not bar/waiting staff)

Last one I was at, the groom was giving a speech and had just said he wants to say a few words about his wife when the batteries in the mic died. The managers were running around for 7 or 8 minutes looking for fresh ones.

The room is too big to create an atmosphere unless you have over 400 guests (the size of the room also makes the bride and grooms entrance into the ballroom a bit of a damp squib)

The food isn't great at all, and the service is pretty slow.

Been to about 5 weddings in salthill hotel, but I'd still have my reception there. Its a much more efficient hotel in every respect.

Also, if you have to do an indoor photo shoot on the day, salthill hotel is much nicer looking inside than the raddison.

I don't work for either hotel, or any hotel for that matter, so there's no bias here.

worked in both hotels for an agency a long time ago (7 years) but it was since the salthill got done up and would agree on the atmosphere being better in the salthill. loved working there and from the sounds of it, it's still a lovely hotel.
the only time the radisson felt remotely full was when we were serving 1000 people for a love galway night and the food was mediocre...but again, that was 7 years ago. I ate in the restaurant a couple of years ago and it was fab...

meant to say...what about the ardilaun? I also worked there and they've since done up the ballroom. The chefs changed just at the end of my stint there but the management really knew their stuff and the hotel has lovely grounds...

Ive attended weddings in both as well, and prefer the Salthill Hotel. The Radisson is too big a room and maybe the high ceiling just sucks all the atmosphere out of the room.. The Salthill hotel is a good size and by all accounts has a good wedding team.
