Hi I've just purchased a saorview box (for mobile home) in powercity 89.95e as usual I fell for the bells nd whistles model crap, anyway I done a satellite scan and installed those channels alright but it's not reading any terrestrial channels, its the digihome DI-TS1124 model. my satellite and Irish channels were previously coming into the mobile on one cable. All appears ok with my aerial which was working up until the changeover, any help greatly appreciated. frustrated!

The single cable coming in has to be split to enable connection to the receiver's terrestrial & satellite inputs: is this the case here?

You can't use a plain splitter/combiner, you need to use a frequency selective version like this or, this version built into a wall plate.

I went into a shop today to pick up one of those connections and the guy said i need an a little aerial that goes behind the tv, 40euro so i walked out in disgust, i don't remember when everyone was being tols to move to saorview that they'd still need another aerial plus the box, jayzus all i want is rte, help

How was this working? By 'Irish channels' do you mean the signal to the tv's analogue tuner? Was there not already some kind of splitter in use?

Should have asked this at the start tbh.

have an aerial which used to give rte and dish for rest of stuff, I guess they must join at a junction out side as just one cable comes into the mobile. so now since the saorview started i don't get rte, so i buy the saorview box and connected but I still cant get rte its just picking up satellite channels and radio stations, beside rte etc it has the symbol of a lock.

If the cables are combined outside, there must have been a corresponding splitter inside. Where did it go?

What kind of satellite receiver were you using before?

triax sat reciever (replaced by new saor view box), so the cable comes into mobile and goes tru a splitter but there is still only one cable coming out of the spliitter going to back of saorview box, just to check i connected other side of splitter to tv with normal co ax lead but still no joy. ill take photos of relevant bits this wkend and post them up maybe that will shed more light on it if needs be, many thanx.

I presume this side of the splitter is your aerial feed so connect it to the aerial input on the back of the saorview box and do a terrestrial scan.

I hope it's not too obvious a question, but did you ever get a digital saorview signal before you installed the di ts1124? The point with saorview (a the guy in shop was telling you) is that it needs an aerial (or can be received by satellite, but not Astra 2A so you woukld have to invest in a moveable dish). Woodies and Power City sell a really neat Lloydtron one for €20 something, and this will give excellent (boosted) reception if you have a decent view of the Dublin mountains. So saorview requires lots of aerials to be put up, contrary to many media reports at the time of its much trumpted release. The di ts1124 needs two separate digital inputs for terrestrial and satellite and does not work with an analogue coax feed. The locked RTE stations you are seeing are probably coming from Astra 2A not saorview. If you have a saorview signal going into the terrestrial input, perform terrestrial input and you should then have all stations up and running.

I have a few problems with the di ts1124 I was hoping people might be able to help with:

Firstly, I have recorded a number of movies (15 or so) onto a 1TB USB harddrive without problems. Suddenly over Christmas the timer recording (manual, not EPG-selected) started cutting out on every recording 20 or 30 minutes into recording. I don't seem to have a problem with intstant recording, where it will run for the duration of the current show which I am recording. I am baffled by this. The hard drive has loads of space and doesn't seem to have any technical problems. Anybody come across this? Also I cannot change the name of any recordings (unless instant recorded where they take the name of the show), which is annoying.

Secondly, I would love to know how to convert the saved recordings, which are in a series of .chunk files, to say .avi format so if anybody knows how to this I would appreciate some guidance.

What's 'an analogue coax feed'? Anyone that had good UHF analogue reception from any of the now Saorview transmitters, should have a good Saorview signal, without having to make any changes to their aerial. (Although for a while before analogue switchoff, the Mt. Leinster transmitter broke this rule, for those with 'grouped' aerials.)

And the Saorview network covers more than just Dublin ...
