looks pre 2000 to me,i.ve got a 2001 one myself, cracking machine, can be a bit jerky as the boom boost feature takes a bit of getting used to,hold their price well, get one needing repairs and grab a bargain like i did

do you mind me asking what price you give and what repairs were needed.

JCB parts are not that cheap I hear

The machine had 3300 hours on the clock,it had issues with the left hand track jamming up in fast track mode, had a damaged bonnet, needed a few bushes on the dipper end,2 x top rollers collapsed (i just replaced with new bearings) and 2 track rollers hanging off ( i rebushed them ) I got machine for £4000 as thats what some dealers were offering the owner as trade in,and its been valued last month for £9000,not bad for 8 days work ( i,m a mechanic for 29 years i should add ).incidentally a ex jcb fitter/expert in our workshop who was working on it had said it was uneconomical repair as he said it needed a track motor at £2500,i fixed problem for £7 set of 'o'rings on one of the relief valves after checking pressures and studying the hydraulic system schematics. You can register up to 5 items of plant free with T.E.R http://www.ter-europe.org/ for free,it means your machine is registered if it gets stolen it can be traced to you if its found on inspection at the docks etc or recovered by police .

what year and hours is the one you are looking at and price ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭yeller

year 1999 i think, hours 4200, tracks are 90%, 3 buckets, no quick hitch, piece broke out of it at back of plastic, he was looking €6500 but €6250 would buy it

Thats not a bad price.Tracks are about £450 each to buy, buckets roughly £200 each, think bonets are about £400 but some one handy should be able to plate and fibreglass it i would say.Things to watch for such as track sprockets worn badly, track and top rollers falling to bits, renewing the bearings are cheaper than replacing the top rollers complete £20 v £60.bottom rollers are cheaper to buy at £60 v £100 for bushes each ...i know silly or what !! i got my bushes free as they were knocking about our workshop stores for years not knowing what they fit as the fleet was changed years ago.Look on ebay or similar for prices of machines, lots of secondhand parts for sale.Nearly forgot, slew rings are prone to cracking if the machine has done a lot of breaker work, you should see it from underneath machine.Quick hitches are about £450,easily manage without if you have to.

thats a nice digger, was it painted too,
this 1999 one is a 803 too but what does PLUS mean as its does not have that...

Thx,i only had to touch up a few scratches on the dipper and obviously the bonnet i repaired, painted all the undercarriage and dozer etc black. The "plus "just identifies this model as having gear pumps for the hydraulic system as opposed to the other model in the range which is called the "super" which has a variable swash plate pump for the hydraulics. There is an option to have a on /off switch on the servo controls to control the boom boost feature mentioned in the handbook but my machine hasnt got that so it can be a bit jerky in operation until you get used to it.need to look at the pumps behind the engine and see whether there is a series of pumps or one large one, yours may have decals missing from its bodywork outside.look at chassis plate below lower front window for id.

Probably take €500 to take it home, that green one is too expensive me thinks
I see Heery's in Cavan has a 1997 one with quick hitch for €7000
