Working part time and social welfare?

    Hi

Long story short, I was in college this year but have now dropped out due to financial difficulties. I had previously been on JSA from October 2011 to August 2012 and then I went to college. After dropping out I got a job, but it's only part time so my hours vary from say 8 hours a week to maybe 10/11. It's not much, but sure it's a job.

The way it currently is I can barely afford my travel to/from work etc, but don't want to give up the job as it's good to have for experience. Is there any benefit or anything that will help me bring up my wage a bit so I can stick it out financially in the hopes of making it full-time? I'm still applying for lots of other jobs, but as everyone knows - the jobs are just very hard to come by lately, so I'm grateful for the one I have now.

    Thanks guys.

    If you go to this
    http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Jobseekers-benefit-_-Five-day-payment-week---Frequently-Ask.aspx

This above should answer any questions you have. If you work one hour a day you will not be able to claim from social welfare.
You will get what is known as a casual docket which you fill out each week telling the dsp what days you have worked.
I would advise you to keep a copy of these for your own records or in case your docket goes missing or you have any questions if you get less money than you expect.

If a person works '1 hour a day' for five days mon-fri can they still be a Casual worker?
If a person works '1 hour a day' for six days mon- Sat can they be a Casual worker, filling out dockets?

Max of three days may be worked, hours worked per day are not taken into consideration.ie one hour worked = 1 day worked.
