Hi, Need 1440P system for gaming. I don't need windows. I guess SLI is way to go. Will be using 42 Inch LG tv for next month. 1440P monitor not included in budget but can include it in the build and will be buying it in next month or two. Have mouse keyboard, thanks

I guess 8320 will do the job or will I need to increase budget for i5?

To be honest I wouldn't bother with 1440p with a budget of €1000. You would build a great 1080p system for a grand but I would say you would want to be spending at least €1500 for a good 1440p system. Fill this in anyway and we'll see what we can do.

    1. What is your budget? [€xxx]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [Gaming/Video editing/3D Modelling/HTPC/Internet] (If gaming include which games)

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [Yes/No]

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? [Hard drive/DVD Drive/Case/PSU/etc.] (If possible state brand and model of the parts to ensure compatibility)

    5. Do you need a monitor? [Yes/No]

5a. If yes, what size do you need. [19'/20'/22'/24'/etc.]

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? [1920x1080/1440x900/etc.] [Yes/No]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard/Mouse/Wireless Card/Card Reader/Speakers/etc.]

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [Yes/No]

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card/Laser]

    9. When are you purchasing? [In x days]

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? [South Dublin City/Cork City/Kerry/etc.]

    1. What is your budget? [€1000-€1100 absoulte max]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [Gaming//Internet] Don't play online seriously only for fun.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [No]

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? [No]

    5. Do you need a monitor? [Catleap - will be using 42 inch tv for next month or so, catleap not included in budget]

5a. If yes, what size do you need. [24 inch is sweet spot I think]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [No, have keyboard mouse, xbox controller 4 windows, will purchase additonal down the line]

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [Yes extra coolers again can wait a while, will probably purchase when I have extra money]

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card/Laser]

    9. When are you purchasing? [ASAP]

Laptop just died and red rings of death xbox in last month. Need a decent sysytem ASAP and 1440P seems way to go. Can cheap out on case etc. I read other threads and 660TI or 660 SLI seems way to go for 1440P. Unsure about 8320 for 1440P is only thing

Going on the piss, I'll throw a build up for you tomorrow. If you don't need windows and the 1440p monitor yet I'd say a decent 1440p system could be knocked together on that budget.

Thank you, again could add the fans and stuff seperate and will purchase in the next month or two. Will leave overclocking till I get them I think.

Also maybe a single graphics card would suffice for a month or two and can add a second one a month or two down the line when I get the catleap. I will have extra funds next month or the month after so not included in budget..

Definitly need a build with SLI support for 1440P

Thanks people, need a new setup asap as xbox and laptop broke in the last month :(

How about this. You might get some of the parts cheaper on Amazon with free delivery. I seen someone post 660ti's selling for €200 each in the bargain alerts sticky as well if you're willing to spend the extra it's a good deal. You could upgrade the processor to the i5 3570k and the board to an Asrock extreme 3 either.

Thank you. I think if I leave out the coolers for now and get a cheaper case I can queeze in the i5.

Would the performanace of the 660 TI in SLI be much greater than the 660 SLI or would it not really be worth it. I'm considerding just getting the 660 TI on its own and add another one a month or two down the line when I get the catleap. I'm also considering maybe something better than the 660

Also could you recommend a catleap to buy?

Yes it would be worth the money if you are willing to spend more. 660ti at 200 euro is well worth it.

Thank you all for the help. Here is my final build if someone could double check it. I decided to go with two 660 TI's. I will be buying the second graphics card next month. Is is worth spending the extra 50 euro on each graphics card for the 3GB ones instead of the 2GB ones. Can't wait to maxing out crysis 3 at 80 FPS :)

Also are dell catleaps monitors good? I was looking at this one

or this one for much cheaper.

That has a 5 year warranty, by the way; that's fantastic!

That looks good. You won't be maxing crysis 3 at 80fps at 1440p though. :)

The monitor will only do 60fps max anyway which it should do.

Both monitors look good. You can get them on ebay as well direct from Korea. You might get one as cheap as €250 with possible customs charges of around €50.

Check the catleap monitor club thread. A lot here have been buying the Qnix one on ebay lately which is supposed to overclock to 120hz allowing up to 120fps.

If you're planning on 1440p then generally it is recommended to go for 3GB cards.

I have 660ti's in sli and the qnix! The highest I've ever seen the VRAM used was at 1.5Gb. As Bloodbath said you won't be maxing out crysis at 120 fps!! But still awesome performance with sli!! You'll be very suprised how well they scale!!

Probably much the same monitors as the other. The second one ships from Korea so you'll probably end up having to pay customs - you'd get a better deal from ebay for much the same service. It's a new seller too.
The first one looks like it ships from Germany so import duties are probably included already - hence the higher price. Again, you could probably get a better deal although amazon might support you if anything went wrong. A bit too expensive though.

The macho heatsink is a pain to install, just to let you know.

Since you went with the i5 you could go with a 212 evo cpu cooler if you wanted. It's €15 cheaper and can still take 3570k's to around 4.5ghz.

Temps wouldn't be a whole lot different although I think the Thermalright would be quieter. Not that the 212 evo is noisey.
