Could You Kill?

Do you think that you could take another person's life? Physically the act could be quite easy (the squeezing of a trigger)

Obviously we can create different scenarios? If somebody killed your Sister, Mam, Brother Dad Girlfriend/boyfriend would you seek revenge?

Personally I'm undecided, deep down I think I could never end another person's life. But I wouldn't truly know unless I was put into one of the scenarios I mentioned, family means a lot to me.

I could easily kill someone, much harder to get away with it though.

    To protect family, yes.

For revenge, probably not, as I'd likely have time to think about it and me ending up in prison wouldn't really be a good thing for the remaining family.

It's not about getting away with it, the question is could you commit such an act?
Premeditated murder, could you honestly easily do that like you say?

I'd pull the trigger for protection of my loved ones only. For revenge, I'd try and think of something more ingenious that wouldn't leave me in jail.

Only if I or an innocent person was at risk or serious harm or death than yes i could.

I dont really know if i would do it as revenge. Thats not really a question i could answer until it happens.

I definitely don't think I could kill someone in an act of premeditated revenge, but in the heat of the moment battle for your life, probably.

Or if complete out of your mind drunk or on drugs, that irrational loss of control has probably been responsible for countless deaths at the hands of someone who would never dream of it in their right mind :(

Ohh ffs, its self-explanatory. Anyone can kill if the put in an extreme situation. Even normal people.

I've never been in a situation where I would have to make that decision, and I hope I never am.

I know what you're getting at but that's a different offence altogether manslaughter. Although of course being intoxicated cannot be used as a mitigating factor and you could still be charged with murder depending on the circumstances.

To be convicted of Murder the Mens Rea (intent) and Actus Reus (the physical action) have to be present.

Oh right, I presumed you meant under normal circumstances where there would be consequences, but if there were no consequences, then yes, I could.

Whether I would or not just leads to a whole series of special set circumstances, so I was trying to keep my answer as simple as possible. For instance I wouldn't kill someone for knocking the top off my ice cream, but if they were to threaten people I care about, and if I were to consider they had the means to carry out such a threat, THEN in that case I would see to it that they were left incapable of carrying out their threat.

Just reading about a guy named Francis Cosby, easily one of the most evil people to have existed on Irish soil, who strangled an Irishman with his own hands. Stradbally Hall in Laois, of Electric Picnic fame, is still the seat of his family.

I could probably kill, but I wouldn't want to be tortured with guilt à la Raskolnikov so I wouldn't do it.

I've been in the situation a couple of times in my life, and I wouldn't be a violent person at all at all, only having been in three fights in my life, but only on the last occasion did I actually act with intent to kill the person after months of sustained intimidation in my previous employment.

The end result was that he got €16k in compensation and we both kept our jobs, but he was fired not long after for an unrelated matter. I would still meet him around town nowadays and he's still an arrogant little prick, but at least now I know better than to take him seriously.

    I disagree.

Murder is a very different thing from killing in self defence or in defence of one's family or loved ones.

I think very few people are capable of murder, as distinct from manslaughter.

I often have dreams where some psycho or mobs or baddies are chasing me and it often boils down to me having to fight and dispatch off my assailant to save myself. Although it also usually ends up that I have a gun in my hand, I point it at the baddie, pull the trigger and absolutely nothing happens! I'm like WTF?!!! and just as I'm about to get my head smashed in I suddenly wake up...

So it appears that I don't hesitate much to kill a person in my dreams when it comes to it but I dunno, reality is a lot different to dreams...

I think that given the right circumstances most people could kill somebody. Everyone has a breaking point. I'd say that it's probably surprisingly easy, if you've been pushed to breaking point.

I don't think I could kill someone, unless they really annoyed me.

But then I'm also quite the pacifist and don't like wars and revenge and all...

Of course you could. It wouldn't be that difficult really. If it was, the holocaust would never have gone as far as they did and things like the Rwandan genocide wouldn't have happened.

It's all good and well thinking you would kill, but i'd bet most would back off from doing so if it came to the crunch. I'd say the people that found out that they just can't kill a person would more than likely just pay someone else to do it :).

Myself, I really don't like the idea of even trying to think of what i would do in a situation of extreme violence forwarded against my family or myself and what i would do. I will never know till it occurs, but hopefully i will never have to find out either.
