    Hi. i got stopped by garda when i was driving my boyfriends car and they have asked me to present myself to garda in 10days to show them proof that i was insured on the car. which i wasn't really,

    i have insurance on my car but not on his. What happens if i dont present it to garda?? That is the question :(

    You'll be summoned to court and probably be convicted of driving without insurance, of course.

    Lots of people are on "open plan" policies with their insurance companies which means they are automatically insured to drive other peoples cars once those cars are insured themselves. Ring your insurance company on monday and ask them if you are on open plan. If you are, then find where it says it in your policy and produce that to the guards.

    Agree with the last post, check your own policy ASAP. When I got my drivers licence and rang my company (Quinn) to tell them they gave me money back an told me I could now drive any car with the permission of the owner and was covered 3rd party. Only applied when over 25 I think. It was a standard part of the policy so might not be something you would be aware of if you didn't actively look for it.
    Failing that you will get a summons - no insurance is very serious and you will be looking at a ban. Hire a solicitor.
