Hi ElleO4, congratulations on getting your place! I'm a mature student myself but I'm actually going to do the optional 4th year. There is normally a large number of mature students on the course each year though. We also have a vet nursing society if you would like to get involved in that and meet vet nursing students from other years.

I think you can pm but I don't know how either! I joined this more than a year ago but I'm not on it that often. Are you on Facebook? AIT AWLS is the page for the veterinary nursing society and myself and another girl are the admins for it.

Hi I was just wondering I'm applying for vet nursing in the CAO coming up soon. As a mature student. Applied two years ago and never got an interview I was just wondering if anybody can give me pointers on how to get one. Etc I really really really want to get in for sep 2014 :)

Well I don't know how it works Peanut to be honest because I got in as a mature without doing the interview. Have you got any more experience in the last 2 years? That would stand to you I'm sure.

    Hi Peanut,
    +
I applied for vet nursing course for this year and after awhile of trying to get in i finally managed it. Each college has different requirements in relation to getting accepted as a mature student. For UCD they require a personal statement along with references from any applicable work experience you have completed, they say a vets reference would stand to you more so. Dundalk sends you out an application form that you are required to fill out and send back to them. This application basically expects you to say youre the best at everything and then you are short listed and called for interview. I got called for interview and it was the scariest thing ive ever done, i came out crying because the women interviewing me were the rudest pair ive ever come across and have never felt so belittled (just my opinion.....and just a warning :)) and then for athlone you need to have the relevant work experience, show you are interested etc etc. All this info should be sent to CAO and then you will be called for interview. here are some of the links for further help.

I cant speak for UCD or dundalk but i would thouroughly recommend Athlone as the lecturers are all lovely and the college is great.

    Hope this helps!!
