For the first time in 30 years there is no golden hour on 2fm this month while Larry Gogan is on holidays and rumor has it that it won't be returning either.

Ye noticed that earlier. The one hour of decent music on the radio.

I'm sure Larry could phone it in at this stage.

What rumour? The one you just made up?

2FM have said that Larry's on 3 weeks holiday. I'd expect the show to return then.

Dan Healys assertion that there is a strict 600 song rotation now on 2FM would on the face of it end 'the golden hour'

And an article in todays's IT about 2FM not playing any more 80's music.

Nice and all a guy as he is, he's been doing that since around '82.

And playing the same tunes since then too.

Well there are hardly likely to be any new releases on the golden hour, now are there?

Think the point is that of the thousands of possible 'golden hour' tracks, a number of tracks are on very high rotation - contrast Larrys show to John Clarkes were a full library of music is explored

Agreed wholeheartedly. John Clarke's show is oldies radio as it should be. 4FM take note.

    Or just take John Clarke.

    :pac:

They'd consign him to a fate of mid charting Eighties cheesy hell!

I usually have him playing through the speakers in the kitchen when making the obligatory Sunday hangover cure of a fry/grill up. He does like his strange nostalgia type jingles, and plays the odd turkey, but the variety of his oldies playlist isn't to be found anywhere else on Irish radio.

It may not fit with whatever 2FM's demographic is supposed to be this week, but I quite like it.

Larrys golden hour is now back but playing a lot of "oldies" from 2007-2011.

In which case the show needs to be renamed The Wooden Hour!

Ha ha... Have they really changed the music format that much on 2fm?

Strange as it may seem, deciding whether to keep or cull The Golden Hour is the least of 2FMs problems.

The golden hour will now feature classic hits and memories from the late 1990s to 2007 :)

I think they need to move Tubs to Radio 1. That show really doesn't fit 2fm

I would like to see it return to bring just '2fm' too.

You could have the odd promo with 2fm from RTE and RTE news on 2fm but the endless weak corporate branding has diluted the brands for 2fm and Lyric in my opinion anyway.

Why are 2FM concentrating on playing the awful stuff from the late 90s and not the good stuff from the early 90s?

At least the Biggest Jukebox hasn't been touched!
