I am travelling from London to Bath end of July just a few questions anyone ever get the train from London is it from Paddington to Bath Spa, how much one way (flying onto Dublin) and how long does it take?
I also need a good recomendation for a hotel not mad expensive but definately has to be central as my elderly mother will be with me. I will be there for 3 days thinking of doing the tour bus also what are the main shopping streets and nice cafes/restaurants thanks. Trying to do a bit of research but would be great help if someone has been there already. I am thinking of getting a taxi to Bristol airport too distance and price wise from Bath?

I think you should watch or read Northanger abbey. It will give you a very acurate portrayal.

The train is from Paddington and takes 90 minutes.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful

The taxi from Bristol to bath is about £ 48 from Bristol and going back should be about £40.

There is a bus from the airport to bath for £11 single and £17 return

The train is about £ 26 return.

If you want details on how to take any of these trips I can give you more info as I have traveled all these ways.

The bus is handy as there are no changes. Bristol train station has 13 platforms do it can be hard to figure out. Just get any train to London. Checking of course it stops in bath.

The taxi takes just under an hour. The bus about 1 hour 20 minutes and the train can vary depending on connections.

It is a lovely city and very walkable.

    You will enjoy.

I would go via Bristol instead of London if flights have not been booked.

There is a great walking tour from the pump house. It is free and takes a couple of hours. Also lovely pubs restaurants and tea rooms.

Have a look at sotto sotto. A bit expensive but great service and great food.

Good shopping as well with a large shopping centre opposite the train station.
