Version 4.0 of the Saorview Minimum Receiver Requirements is on the way it appears.

A link has appeared on 2RN's Saorview webpage but the document isn't there at the at the moment - http://www.2rn.ie/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Irish-DTT-receiver-spec-V4.pdf

The minimum receiver spec was last revised in Mar 2012.

The updated minimum receiver spec is due following the release of the NorDig 2.4 update last Jan. Some of the updates to the Nordig spec include
    • All IRDs has to support MPEG2 SD and MPEG4 HD (i.e. removal of M2 and M4 Level)
    • Update of video requirements
    • Supplementary Audio is completely update and will become mandatory functionality from 2014
    • Inclusion of HbbTV (and removal of MHP) as NorDig’s selected API
    • Inclusion of Immunity against 800MHz LTE signals for terrestrial IRDs

A full list of updates are on page 9 of the Nordig spec. Not all of these may be included in the Saorview spec.

Eh? Surely has to support MPEG4 SD

Well we knew MHP was dead. Early days to say if HbbTV will live. (If a TV has a Web Browser & Internet what is the point of HbbTV? Either you are watching Broadcast or you can go to the Broadcaster's Web Site. Anything much more than fancy Teletext is pointless if you have a Net connection).

It's like WAP etc, once phones have decent browsers and sensible priced data packages and good screens why have stupid Operator walled gardens?

Version 4.0 of the Saorview Minimum Receiver Requirements, dated 28-03-2012 - the same date as version 3.0???

Very little changes to the text of the document other than updated references to the Nordig 2.4 standard.

On page 12 there is this following note, added to this version, which appears to include an error
Note: the support of UHF channels 60 to 68 is no longer required and these should not be utilised or displayed by the IRD.
I think it should read UHF channels 61 to 68 (or 69 if you include 854-862MHz). The table below the text states "UHF V 790 – 862 MHz Not Applicable" i.e. UHF channels 61-69. UHF channel 60 is included in the Irish DTT plan according to Comreg but won't be allocated unless it's required in a 6 or 8 mux plan.

The 2RN logo has replaced the RTÉNL logo on the first 3 pages but the RTÉNL logo remains on the other 32 and in the footer of the first 3 pages the company is referred to a RTÉNL/2RN but in the other 32 it remains as RTÉNL. One reference to 2RN Ireland and another to RTÉNL/2RN within the document. Someone probably got bored with the task after the first 3 pages :D.

    Revised version 4 published today - http://www.2rn.ie/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Irish-DTT-receiver-spec-V5.pdf, dated 01-07-2013.

It's being referred to ver.5 in the link and document properties, more like ver.4.1

2RN logo now replaces the RTÉNL logo on all pages but RTÉNL remains as the company name in the footer of most pages.
