i'm putting the cassette back on the bike freehub but i don't seem to have enough room left to thread on the lockring?

everything looks perfect except there isn't enough left on the guide pin to engage the 2nd last cog(of 8)

is there an obvious solution ? thanks

One of the sprockets (prob outermost 1 or two) or the plastic spacers within the cassette isnt seated correctly and the cassette is thus protruding too much. Also check that any spacers behind the innermost sprocket is correctly seated (should happen automatically). Nothing too concerning, I'd suggest, just take the cassette off & reassemble it carefully

there's no spacer behind the innermost sprocket

look at the spaces between the cogs, particularly the smaller (outer) ones. with the groves on the freewheel, the outer cogs can fit some of the way around, but not all. because they are the outer ones, its hard to notice. take them off and make sure that the grove pattern on the free hub matches the cogs
