Runway 10 today

Was listening to the EIDW feed today and they were issuing landings on runway 10 then all of a sudden changed to runway 16. It wasn't to do with a wind shift because I heard them telling the Etihad that runway 10 was NOT available. It then became available again around 30 minutes later. Just wondering does anybody here know why?

Atc said there was an issue with runway 10 its self. The garda helicopter was over baldoyle at the time, between 500/1500 feet.....I don't know if this cause a change the chopper was 3 miles out and go around could be fun for an a330.

Yeah I heard the garda helicopter on frequency, I heard them giving some of the landing traffic non standard go-around procedures in the event of a GA. An Aer lingus also hit a few pigeons on touchdown after they had reopened 10.. Interesting day!!

Was that the afternoon arrival? I work at Northern Cross and the 7:30am flight definitely came in on 10/28.

That reminds me, I should get soe photos from my office. Great vantage point for approaches on 10/28.

The runway closes occasionally for inspection as its old and breaking up, most likely it was not available because of the aforementioned heli.

it must be costing them arm and leg just to keep that runway open.. its our main airport and some say on here that its breaking up. jesus im heading somewhere else to fly out of.. maybe transfer all to shannon and do job on that 10/28 before plane gets lost in it

God don't do that aviation would grind to a halt if we sent 600+ movements to Shannon.

But this is obviously a looming issue for DUB. The runway there have a finite lifespan. They had planned a 2nd runway which would have alleviated the problem (or at least allowed them the chance to repair/replace 28/10)

However the economic issues have delayed 2nd runway indefinitely...so DUB not face having a runway that is in disrepair at some point in the future.

why is it that the likes of heathrow can close the runway at night and put tarmac down and ready for planes in the morning .. is dublin airport that broke...

    Tut tut

2 parallel runways and very little to no traffic from midnight till 5.

BTW there is a HUGE difference between resurfacing and rebuilding heathrow resurfaced as has Dublin but Dublins runway needs a complete rebuild from foundations upwards.

DUB was resurfaced not so long ago at nights, replacing tar is only half the story, LHR runways are better built

Its going to be an interesting problem to sort out.

They should let the government or a private company build a new runway and put a toll on it :)

Why could they not build a new runway right beside the new one, as mentioned, do it at night over the summer and then dismatle the old one?? possible confusion for flights landing?

I think it comes down to one thing. Money. Or should I say the lack of it.

Dismantle the old one? Then we'd just be back to single runway operations..

There is no space to build a runway literally right beside 10/28.

The new runway will be built parallel to the current main runway 10/28 at the north of the airfield where the decommissioned 11/29 is. When it's complete, 10R/28L will have to be rebuilt while 10L/28R is being used and then do dual runway operations when it's finished.
