    Hi Folks,

Just wondering if anyone could give an indication as to what salary one could expect working in a role such as this, working with databases and SQL? Candidate is inexperienced in the role so would be starting with basic knowledge of SQL etc.

    Thanks.

    Minimal to be honest.
Companies do not want inexperienced programmers / data analysts.
You'd need to get up to speed and be fully competent, with certification to back this up, before you'd be taken seriously as a programmer.
A very junior role- possibly in the 25-30k bracket, is probably as good as it gets- without being competent in the area.

You need to get experience- and be able to prove your competence with certification, in order to be considered a programmer.

Thanks. The position is actually within my current company, and I've been recommended for it. So they're aware of my deficiencies and are willing to accommodate. Should I get it then I can focus on stuff like certification and tackling that learning curve! That salary range is roughly what I was expecting.

If its within your current company- what they'd normally do is a straight transfer across on your current salary (whatever that might be) with the promise of a review once you reach certain targets (e.g. pay rise 10% on completion of certain training courses and proof that you're using them in your job).

Its a stepping stone to bigger and better things- you wouldn't normally get a pay cut from you current post though- it would normally be a straight transfer across.

i'd've thought that 26 would be the upper end for that

Yep, sounds right for an inexperienced SQL monkey. However if you turn out to be very good (top 10%/15% good) then you can be a LOT more demanding.
