Making the First Move after an Interview?

My partner sat an interview last week, and was invited to the second and final interview yesterday. There were two positions and four candidates and he was told he would be informed either way today at the latest. Was just wondering, is it considered bad manners to contact the company by email to ask for an update? It's more so for his SW records, but also for piece of mind - he's really let down that they haven't even mailed him.

I would imagine a call would be better than an email. Should be no problem following up a week later as they did tell you that they would be back that day!

They have dealt with him entirely through email up to this point, so I thought it might be their preferred method of contact.

In my experience I've never actually heard back from a company by the time they'd said they'd get back to me. I generally give them a few days and then chase it up.

In this example I'd probably contact them on Tuesday or so politely enquiring as to whether or not they have any news.

We're absolutely thrilled, it's been a grudging 6-month battle and I'm over the moon someone finally gave him a chance! Very impressive job package for the day that's in it (plus it means we can afford to get married now!)

    Thanks everyone :D
