So I've always wanted a proper turntable system, and it looks like circumstances have developed so that I might be able to achieve this soon. My uncle very kindly gifted me a small amplifier, a renkforce E-SA9. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out a turntable that would go well with this unit, in the 150-180 euro range? I was looking at the Pioneer PL-990, but have read mixed reviews!
any help would be great, thanks!
Not sure if this should go in the retro or music section, so i decided to put it here.

If you could stretch to the €229 price the Denon 'DP-200USB' is a good turntable that has USB & Pre-amplifier

Advantage of the Pre-amp is you can run this through a mini hifi system once it has a line in/aux/audio in connection.

With USB, you can convert your Vinyl to mp3 and have your favourite Records on your iPod as well as on your shelf. There is free Audacity software in the box for recording.

But aside from all this as a straight turntable its a good entry level turntable.

Savins in limerick have been dealing with turntables for years and might be a good contact for help. see link below:

They also do the Aiwa turntable for €99 no USB but does have Pre-amp

    hi there,
my teenage daughter has a hankering for some old school vinyl and has asked for a record player for Christmas,(raised her right so I did) anyone know where I might get my hands on one of those portables that came in their own suitcase thingy? Working would be better as I don't know where one would go for turntable repairs these days.

    I have this in white.

But I only use it when I am at record fairs / boot sales or if I'm going somewhere that doesn't have a turntable [holiday home/ parents gaff etc].

It's not good enough as a primary turntable. USB turntables are very average at best.

For home listening I currently use a Thorens TD-150 MK II - dates from 1973. Bought a restored deck on German Ebay. Great sound. If I want to burn vinyl to CD I just connect my mixer to the laptop and download Audacity software.
