Was considering the idea of buying a small bit of $hite land and planting some trees on it. Nothing major. Was thinking it might be an idea to buy a few acres of old boggy land in middle of nowhere, plant it up to the hilt with Ash/birch and leave it for 20 years. A few grand spent now should yield a lot more then?

Is it worth considering? I heard there were grants over the last years for certain natives like birch etc. They still about or do you need to be a registered company etc?

    Thanks

dont tell the lads on the boggy land they get fair upset when the land goes to foresty....:D

there is a bit more to it then filling the place with saplings and coming back in 20 years. Forestry for profit requires proper management and cultivation of the woodland. You should get intouch with a repupatle forestry company to see what the costs/benfits are.

Thanks, Might give them a shout.

You reckon its viable to make a few quid if I buy a few acres? I don't mind putting the work in if it pays off in the end.

There could be anywhere from 700-1000 trees to be planted per acre! Not cheap.
    Cost of land! Not cheap!
Preparing land and planting of trees...
Fencing site(if you planted ash then a wild deer, cows or anything would love to eat them!
Disease....ash disease could wipe them out
Thinning after a few years cost.

    Easier ways to make money.
